Charity Update: Spring 2021

This page was last updated on April 20, 2021

20 April 2021

A new series of 5-minute guides for trustees

The Charity Commission has published a new series of  “5-minute guides” to help trustees understand their duties. They cover the following key areas of charity management:

The aim of these guides is to make it easier for trustees to find the basic information they need, and each includes links to more detailed guidance. The guides can be found here

Responsible Investment

In our last update, we reported that the Charity Commission was updating its guidance, as it did not currently give trustees of charities the confidence to enter into responsible investments. Responsible investments are financial investments which are also in line with a charity’s charitable purposes.

The guidance has now been released for consultation. In particular, The Charity Commission is seeking views on whether the updated guidance provides clarity for charity trustees adopting a responsible approach to investing their charity’s funds. The consultation closes on 20 May 2021 and can be found here.

Latest Coronavirus Guidance from The Fundraising Regulator

The Fundraising Regulator has published guidance to support charities, fundraising organisations and the public as they resume public fundraising following the easing of coronavirus restrictions. The following guidance has been added:

The guidance includes relevant government regulations as well as other considerations that charities should think about as they plan their fundraising activities under each stage of the easing of restrictions.

It is aimed at ensuring fundraising continues to be honest, open, respectful and legal and offers a framework to ensure that charities are making the right decisions.

The guidance can be found here.
